This is made possible by many factors. Political stability leads to policy consistency; inflation rate is low whereas GDP growth rate is high in recent years; the trade system is open; business environment is efficient; the industrial policies are effective; fiscal surplus benefits the social security system; and investment is on the increase. However, the future of ChileТs competitiveness still faces many challenges. Over-dependence on primary commodities tends to reduce economic sustainability. Underdevelopment of education has obstructed social development. Lack of enough capital for R&D by the firms would hinder innovation. The rigid labor system has affected firmsТ vigorousness.
