President Chavez is the most remarkable representative of this tendency. Since he came to power, President Chavez has adopted the external policy of fighting against hegemony, power politics, U.S. intervention and interference. He is strongly against the U.S.-led FTAA and supports the unity of left wing forces in Latin America. In the domestic front, he has carried out important reforms in the name of Bolivar Revolution. Since the April coup in 2002 bilateral relations between Venezuela and the U.S. have been deteriorating. The U.S. wants to isolate President Chavez in the international arena and helps the opposition to overthrow him. It has been proved that President Chavez and other left wing leaders will pursue their own independent policies and the U.S. will be forced to make adjustment of its policies towards Latin America.
